Playboy was built of the voyeuristic fantasy of the girl next door. Now the mansion that the magazine made a Los Angeles landmark has been sold to a billionaire’s son next door.
The Daily Mail reported Monday that Daren Metropoulos purchased the 5-acre estate for more than $100 million. The 32-year-old is “a principal at private-equity firm Metropoulos & Co.” and the son of former Pabst Brewing Company owner, C. Dean Metropoulos.
When magazine publisher Hugh Hefner put the house on the market in January, the asking price was $200 million. Mr. Hefner purchased the property in the 1970s for a little more than $1 million.
In addition to a wine cellar, pool, tennis court and the infamous grotto, Mr. Metropoulos now finds himself as landlord to the 90-year-old pornographer, whom he should find a rather sedate tenant.
“Hef is so frail, he goes everywhere with a group of nurses,” the Mail quoted former Playboy Playmate Carla Howe.
