A police officer was shot and wounded Friday morning in Ballwin, Missouri, a suburb west of St. Louis.

“A suspect was reported to be in custody after a foot chase” the St. Louis Post-Dispatch said, citing police sources. Additionally, “a weapon was recovered” from the suspect.

At 2:40 p.m. Eastern, St. Louis County police tweeted, “The @BallwinPolice officer continues to receive life-saving treatment at an area hospital. Please pray for him and his family. #ballwin”



A little over an hour later, the Ballwin Police Department tweeted that “[t]he officer is currently in critical but stable condition.”  

“Thank you to the community for the outpouring of prayers & support. We look forward to the cont. support of the community during this time,” the police department added.
