The Twitter account of comedian and Hillary Clinton surrogate Sarah Silverman was hacked on Wednesday.
The hackers posted a video by the hacking group Anonymous criticizing Mrs. Clinton and left a message asking, “America, are you awakening?” that was also transcribed below in Russian.
The hashtags “#Hillary4Prison” and “#Anonymous” were also left in the missive, which has since been deleted.
Ms. Silverman quickly took to Twitter to inform her followers that her account had been hacked.
“MY TWITTER ACCT GOT HACKED THIS IS NOT ME,” the comedian tweeted.
The hack comes after Ms. Silverman addressed the Democratic National Convention on Monday, during which she told Vermont Sen. Bernard Sanders’ supporters who were “Bernie-or-Bust” that they were being “ridiculous.”
It’s also the latest instance of cyber warfare in the 2016 presidential race, coming on the heels of the Democratic National Committee email hack that led to the resignation of DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
Those emails, which were released by WikiLeaks, showed top party officials plotting to undermine Mr. Sanders’s campaign.
Democrats and some experts have speculated the hack was led by Russia state actors, but Russia President Vladimir Putin has denied those charges as “absurd.”
