Dayton, Ohio-based Wright State University has pulled out of their hosting commitment for the Sept. 26 presidential debate, which will now take place at Hofstra University, CNN reported Tuesday.
In a press conference Tuesday afternoon, Wright State president David Hopkins cited ballooning security costs and the inconvenience the event would posed to students and faculty.
Mr. Hopkins said the university initially expected to pay about $3.5 million, but the cost eventually exceeded $8 million, the Dayton Daily News reported.
“We’re not going to shut down the educational institution,” for the event, Mr. Hopkins said, the Daily News reported.
