Fathers inadvertently embarrassing their teenage daughters is a universal phenomenon, but it may take a while for a 14-year-old Mexican girl to live down her dad’s goof.

Rubi Ibarra García’s dad made a brief video invitation for her 15th birthday party, apparently intending to share it only with friends. Nope. It went viral on Facebook, resulting in about a million RSVPs, Fusion TV reported on their website Tuesday.

“Hello, how you doing? We invite you on December 26 to our daughter’s Rubi Ibarra García quinceañera party,” Fusion translated from the original Spanish, adding that he rattled off a list of bands what would play at the festive occasion in the central Mexican town of La Joya, population 211.

The video invite has sparked numerous humorous memes about the mix-up, many centered on the notion of millions of partiers descending on a modest birthday party in a small town, Fusion reported.

The sensation keeps growing, apparently, with commercial ventures jumping on the bandwagon. The Spotify streaming-music service, for example, came up with a playlist for the party, Fusion noted in a followup story Thursday.

So if you can’t make Rubi’s party, you can always listen to that 27-song set online here.

Of course, for all the fun the internet is having with this, local authorities are understandably nervous.

San Luis Potosi authorities were adding extra security measures, The Associated Press reported Wednesday, noting that a state congressman who represents the area also has requested the Red Cross and state civil defense personnel be staged nearby.
