A California judge Wednesday turned down a request by Brad Pitt to seal court records in the divorce proceedings between him and wife Angelina Jolie
The documents in question pertain to custody arrangements for the couple’s adopted children, according to the Tribune News Service.
Los Angeles Superior Court Richard J. Burdge Jr. rejected the motion, stating in a brief written order the request didn’t meet the requirements for sealing documents, Tribune News Service reported.
While Mr. Pitt said through his attorneys that the request was with the privacy of his children in mind, Ms. Jolie’s attorneys countered in a court filing that the request by Mr. Pitt was “a thinly veiled attempt to shield himself, rather than the minor children, from public view.”
Earlier Wednesday, an unnamed source complained to People magazine that “Angelina has consistently made public statements and public filings throughout this process. He has not.”
“All he is saying — and any therapist would agree here — is that he wants to do what is in the best interests of his children, and his entire family, including her, frankly,” the source said. “And that is to keep this private.
“What is the argument for having it public?” the source said. “Why would you want any details about this incredibly difficult time to be broadcast to the whole world?”
Ms. Jolie filed for divorce in September, shortly after a heated argument aboard the couple’s private jet between Mr. Pitt and eldest son Maddox.
Subsequent investigations by both federal and local authorities concluded with no findings of evidence of physical abuse.
