SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Gov. Gary Herbert has asked a group of Utah health and insurance officials to come up with ideas to share with Congress about how President Barack Obama’s health care law should be changed or replaced.
President-elect Donald Trump and GOP congressional leaders have promised to replace “Obamacare” with a conservative-tinged version that provides access to affordable coverage for all Americans. They have not released details of such a plan.
Health Department director Joseph Miner told The Salt Lake Tribune (https://bit.ly/2hVcLNu ) that the Utah group has started meeting and plans to send recommendations to Herbert about how the law could give states flexibility and cut costs.
Tanji Northrup with Utah’s Insurance Department told lawmakers this week that her agency worries that if officials repeal the requirement that most Americans have insurance without making other changes could be a problem.
