The District’s Fox affiliate, WTTG, teamed up with Make-A-Wish Mid Atlantic to grant a 5-year-old Maryland boy named Kaheem his wish to be a superhero for a day.
According to Fox5DC.com, Kaheem, who is battling leukemia, spent a day of adventure with firefighters and local officials. “Super Kaheem” met with actors dressed as heroes from the Marvel and DC comics universes at the Fox 5 studios before being whisked away by a Montgomery County fire company to complete various missions such as “rescuing” Santa Claus from atop the ferris wheel at the National Harbor and “stopping” the Grinch from stealing presents at the National Theatre.
House Speaker Paul D. Ryan, Wisconsin Republican, even offered a message of encouragement for the boy during his day of fun — as well as his next assignment.
Kaheem’s final task was at the Newseum, where he needed to save some of the District’s sports mascots from being tied up atop the building.
Via hashtags and social media, Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic donations of up to $300,000 would be matched by a silent donor during the event.
