The NHL has seen an influx of young point producers. Winnipeg Jets forward Patrik Laine is certainly one of them.

Laine is currently third in the NHL in goals scored, with 17 total, despite his rookie status at the ripe age of 18.

But in his most recent game against the Edmonton Oilers, Laine found the puck on his stick with a wide open net. Instinctually, he put the puck past goaltender Connor Hellebuyck.

Hellebuyck is Laine’s teammate. Laine scored a goal in his own net.

The goal was credited to Oilers’ forward Mark Letestu. The goal would end up being the game winner.

Understandably, Laine seemed to be crushed. His captain, Blake Wheeler, came to consoled him.

So while he has put the puck in the net 18 times this year, it’s still just 17.
