(1) Evangelicals rip Romney, would ‘demoralize Trump supporters’

…David Lane, who led a national effort to get evangelical voters to the polls and ministers to run for office, said Trump has only “one chance” to craft a cabinet and he should look beyond Romney, who has been forced to eat crow as he campaigns for the State position.

“President-elect Trump gets one chance to fill the cabinet with individuals who share his vision and values, and will be loyal team players. One chance. Appointing a self-motivated adversary to a top cabinet seat will demoralize the millions of grassroots, precinct-level conservative supporters who delivered Trump the presidency on November 8th,” said David Lane, of the American Renewal Project.

…”The Bible speaks to the principle of equal yoking. In a position as key as secretary of State, it’s critical to have someone who can wholeheartedly advocate for the administration positions and not seek to undermine them overseas,” said Rich Bott, president of his Bott Radio Network.

“Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint,” he said in an email quoting Proverbs.

(2) John Heubusch & The Conspiracy Of The Shroud |Huffington Post

Huffington Post published an interview yesterday with John Heubusch, Executive Director of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation, about his debut novel coming out in the spring.

Q: How would you describe the book?

A: A thriller where the “The Da Vinci Code” meets “Indiana Jones.” What if it were possible to bring about the “Second Coming” through DNA? It’s all about what happens when science and faith collide in a way that has drastic consequences for all mankind. At its center there’s also a love story where a man with a genius intellect and no spirituality must grapple with the mystery of faith and a woman his equal who maintains an unshakable devotion to God.

Q: What interested you in the topic?

A: I’m the product of a Catholic upbringing and education. When I was seventeen and only days from high school graduation, I watched a documentary produced by the Church on the Shroud of Turin that fascinated me to no end. Presumably I get a good idea about every forty years as that’s how long it took for me to invent the plot and write the book.

Full disclosure: Heubusch is both a friend and a client.

(3) Who doesn’t read books in America? |Pew Research

About a quarter of American adults (26%) say they haven’t read a book in whole or in part in the past year, whether in print, electronic or audio form. So who, exactly, are these non-book readers?

Several demographic traits correlate with non-book reading, Pew Research Center surveys have found. For instance, adults with a high school degree or less are about three times as likely as college graduates (40% vs. 13%) to report not reading books in any format in the past year. A 2015 Pew Research Center survey shows that these less-educated adults are also the least likely to own smartphones or tablets, two devices that have seen a substantial increase in usage for reading e-books since 2011. (College-educated adults are more likely to own these devices and use them to read e-books.)

Adults with an annual household income of less than $30,000 are about twice as likely as the most affluent adults to be non-book readers (33% vs. 17%). Hispanic adults are also about twice as likely as whites (40% vs. 23%) to report not having read a book in the past 12 months. …
