A former Louisiana district attorney was sentenced Wednesday to three years in prison for trading sex for leniency in cases he prosecuted.
Harry Morel Jr., a 33-year-veteran prosecutor in St. Charles Parish, pleaded guilty in April after a three-year federal probe of whether he solicited sex from women in exchange for assistance in pending cases in Louisiana’s 29th Judicial District Court, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported.
He was also ordered to pay a $20,000 fine.
Authorities labeled Morel a “sexual predator” and said his pattern of misconduct in office spanned 20 years and included at least 20 women, the Times-Picayune reported.
The disbarred attorney is ordered to begin his sentence on Sept. 26 at a prison yet to be determined by federal authorities, the Times-Picayune reported.
