Right tackle Tom Compton questionable for Sunday with left calf injury

ASHBURN — The Washington Redskins could be without right tackle Tom Compton on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, as he recovers from a calf injury.

Compton hasn’t practiced all week and instead was working on a side field by himself. He was listed as questionable on Friday’s practice report.

Compton was kicked in the calf during the Redskins’ final preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and re-injured it in practice this week.

“It’s a pulled calf, I believe,” coach Jay Gruden said on Friday. “He just kind of tweaked it.”

Compton, who can play both guard and tackle, also provides the team with flexibility at the tight end position in run-blocking packages. If he’s not available Sunday, that puts the onus on new addition Anthony McCoy — the former Seattle Seahawks tight end who was signed on Monday.

McCoy hasn’t played since 2012 after injuring his Achilles’ the last two seasons.

“He’s doing good, but he’s just another one that we’re going to wait and see,” Gruden said. “We’ve got another little walk through [Saturday] and then we’ll get together as a staff and make some decisions on the 46-man roster, but he’s doing a good job. I think he’ll be ready very shortly.”

Outside linebacker Jackson Jeffcoat was also listed as questionable for Sunday’s game with a thigh injury. Jeffcoat was not listed on the practice report until Friday — though he did participate fully.

Defensive end Frank Kearse (sprained left shoulder) and center Kory Lichtensteiger (unspecified finger injury) were full participants on Friday and listed as probable.

Quarterback Robert Griffin III was also listed as probable and participated fully. On Friday, Gruden also announced Griffin (concussion) was cleared medically for Sunday’s game.
