It’s long been apparent that the United States faces an existential threat arising from the complete dependency of its people, economy and security on an electric grid that is not resilient. To date, however, little-to-nothing has been done to remedy that situation – even as jihadist and other threats to the grid are proliferating.
Fortunately, one of America’s most prominent journalists, Ted Koppel, has just published a new book titled “Lights Out.” In it, Mr. Koppel confirms that we are inviting disaster by ignoring the yawing vulnerability of our most critical of critical infrastructures: the electric grid.
And later Thursday, the Obama administration at last recognized the reality that an action plan is long overdue.
We must secure the grid. Now.
