LANDOVER — For the second consecutive week, the Washington Redskins will be missing a running back from their dynamic trio.
Third-down back Chris Thompson is inactive for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers because of a lower back injury he sustained against the New York Jets last week.
Against the Jets, running back Matt Jones was inactive because of a sprained toe and is active this week against the Buccaneers. Without Thompson in the lineup, Jones is expected to see most of the work on third down.
The other six inactive players for the Redskins are cornerbacks DeAngelo Hall and Chris Culliver, center Kory Lichtensteiger, wide receiver DeSean Jackson, quarterback Robert Griffin III and defensive end Frank Kearse.
The Redskins will again turn to Josh LeRibeus at center without Lichtensteiger on the field. LeRibeus made his first career start at center last week against the Jets and struggled a little bit with the accuracy of his snaps.
“For his first time playing center, there were some positive things there, things he can get better at, but I think he can build off his performance,” coach Jay Gruden said this week. “The biggest issue were some of the snaps. We’ve just got to get some of the snaps under control a little bit and then finishing some blocks.”
Tight end Jordan Reed, who missed the last two games with a concussion, is active. Left tackle Trent Williams is also active after missing last week’s game with a concussion.
Inside linebacker Keenan Robinson (heel) and defensive ends Jason Hatcher (knee) and Stephen Paea (back) are all active as well. They were listed as questionable.
The following players are inactive for Tampa Bay: Quarterback Ryan Griffin, cornerback Tim Jennings, safety Keith Tandy, defensive tackle Tony McDaniel, right tackle Reid Fragel, tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins and wide receiver Russell Shepard.
