An Ohio man who was arrested earlier this year and accused of planning a complex attack on the U.S. Capitol that involved killing officers and employees using semi-automatic rifles is now also being accused of providing material support to the the Islamic State.
A federal grand jury on Thursday brought the additional charges against 21-year-old Christopher Lee Cornell, about four months after he was arrested over the purported Capitol attack.
The grand jury stated in a four-page indictment that the Ohio man attempted to support the foreign terrorist organization, a crime which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

Mr. Cornell also faces charges associated with attempting to murder government employees, solicitation to commit an attempted murder and possession of a firearm.
The FBI arrested Mr. Cornell on Jan. 14 after tracking him for months. He has pleaded not guilty .
