Funeral services are being held Friday for a D.C. firefighter who collapsed and died at the scene of an apartment fire.
Lt. Kevin McRae died May 6 after he and Engine Company 6 battled a fire in a nine-story apartment complex in Northwest. Lt. McRae descended the stairs safely but collapsed shortly after outside of the apartment.
The 44-year-old originally joined the D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services department in 1989 as a cadet firefighter. He is the 100th D.C. firefighter to die in the line of duty, following his cousin James McRae III, who was the 99th line of duty death.
