Anne Arundel County investigators have determined that faulty Christmas tree lights caused a massive fire at an Annapolis mansion that killed six family members last week, WTOP reported Wednesday.

Investigators believe the six family members all died of smoke inhalation in the blaze, WTOP reported, citing ABC News 7.

The early morning fire on Jan. 19 killed tech executive Don Pyle, his wife Sandra, and their four grandchildren — two sets of siblings ages 6 to 8 who were visiting the couple.

The 16,000-square-foot waterfront mansion, called “the castle” by locals, burned to the ground, requiring crews to search several days for bodies in the rubble.

Anne Arundel Fire Department held a 4 p.m. press conference on Wednesday, WTOP reported.
