HANOVER, Md. (AP) — Maryland officials are meeting to discuss improving transit in Baltimore.

Maryland Transportation Secretary Pete Rahn will attend Monday’s meeting in Hanover with Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and other city officials.

Sen. Barbara Mikulski, Rep. Elijah Cummings and Rep. John Sarbanes also are scheduled to attend.

The meeting comes after Gov. Larry Hogan announced in June that the state would not move ahead with a light rail proposal in the city, because of the cost and flaws with the plan.

Officials are considering a menu of options to improve transit, including more reliable service and reducing overcrowding. They also are considering how to increase the number of jobs accessible by transit by increasing service to major regional job centers.
