Millions of Gmail addresses and passwords were leaked online — but Google company officials are saying not to worry.
The danger has been exaggerated, they said, NBC News reported.
“We found that less than 2 percent of the username and password combinations might have worked and our automated anti-hijacking systems would have blocked many of those login attempts,” Google wrote in a blog post.
Google also said that the “dump” of email addresses and passwords didn’t come from a Gmail leak, but rather from “other sources” that hacked other sites and slowly collected the data over a period of time, NBC News reported.
The company also said those affected by the hack should have been contacted already and advised to switch passwords.
