INDIANAPOLIS — Andrew Luck completed 19 of 27 passes for 370 yards and five touchdowns to help the Indianapolis Colts claim a 49-27 victory over the Washington Redskins on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Rookie running back Daniel Herron added 88 rushing yards, including a 49-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, for the Colts (8-4), who gained 487 total yards. The 49 points scored by Indianapolis were the most the Redskins have allowed since giving up 59 in a loss to Philadelphia on Nov. 15, 2010.
Quarterback Colt McCoy, making his first start since replacing Robert Griffin III, completed 31 of 47 passes for a 392 yards and three touchdowns, both of which were career highs.
His effort offensively was no match for that of the Colts, who entered the game as the league’s top-ranked offense and scored touchdowns on passes of 79, 73, 48 and 30 yards.
The Redskins (3-9), who have now lost four consecutive games, trailed 21-10 at halftime. They were hampered by injuries throughout the course of the afternoon, with the most notable loss that of wide receiver DeSean Jackson, who had five catches for 84 yards and a touchdown before leaving the game in the third quarter with a bruised right leg.
Outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan, strong safety Brandon Meriweather, defensive end Kedric Golston and cornerback Chase Minnifield all left the game for significant stretches, with only Kerrigan returning.
