NEW YORK (AP) - A former Long Island Rail Road electrician has been sentenced to probation for admitting he falsely claimed disability.

Steven DeStefano also was ordered to repay about $183,000 he received in disability payments.

Prosecutors have arrested 33 doctors, consultants and former workers in what they say was a long-running scheme to falsify disabilities.

Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/1g8VZoc ) reports that 28 of the 33 have been sentenced so far.

Authorities say the workers filed false claims with the federal Railroad Retirement Board.

Prosecutors say DeStefano cooperated with the investigation after being caught.

DeStefano declined to comment as he left the federal courthouse in Manhattan.
