MONROE, La. (AP) - Monroe businessman Harris Brown says he intends to run for Louisiana’s 5th District congressional seat in the November election.
The News-Star reports (https://tnsne.ws/1jxW8fK ) that Brown, a Republican who is a principal in an oil and gas company, announced his plans Wednesday.
He has never held elected office, but he is past president of the Tensas Basin Levee District board and a former member of the Ouachita Parish Mosquito Abatement District board.
He’ll run for the seat held by U.S. Rep. Vance McAllister, a Republican who has said he won’t seek re-election following a scandal in which a video was leaked of the married congressman kissing a former staffer.
Other announced candidates are Republican Ed Tarpley of Alexandria, a former Grant Parish district attorney, and Clay Grant, a Libertarian from Boyce.
