COVINGTON, Ga. (AP) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is probing a fatal officer-involved shooting in Newton County.
County sheriff’s officials say they were responding to call about a woman making suicidal threats at a house in Covington Monday afternoon when a woman came outside armed with a rifle.
Sgt. Courtney Morrison says the woman refused to drop the weapon after being repeatedly asked to do so and deputies fired shots at her.
It’s unclear how many times the woman was wounded, and her identity hasn’t been released.
