Manslaughter charges dropped in son’s death

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Manslaughter charges have been dismissed against a St. Louis man in the death of his son.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/QjcmTJ ) reports that Zachary Barber was originally charged after striking his child with the back of his hand in May. The child grew limp and became unresponsive. The child’s brother performed CPR and called police.

The medical examiner’s office later determined that the child died from a heart arrhythmia due to the blow to the chest. A spokeswoman for the circuit attorney’s office declined comment on the case, and under state law, records pertaining to dismissed cases are sealed.
