PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Providence police say an officer fatally shot a suspect after police came under fire in a gunfight.
The shooting occurred between 10:30 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. Saturday when officers encountered a group of people in a gunfight. Providence police Maj. David Lapatin said officers were fired on and fired back, hitting a suspect.
The body of the unidentified suspect was taken to the medical examiner’s office.
