JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Constance Dunn scored 14 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and came up with a game-winning steal with six seconds remaining as Itawamba AHS narrowly beat Bay High 42-41 to claim the MHSAA Class 4A girls state championship on Saturday afternoon.
It is the Lady Indians’ first state championship in school history.
Dunn shot 6 of 17 from the field and Kim Mallory added 13 points for Itawamba AHS. The Lady Indians (30-8) played tight defense in the final minute to seal the win. Dunn’s steal was crucial, but so was Aniyah Marshall’s with 17 seconds remaining.
Christa Reed, a Vanderbilt signee, led Bay High with 18 points and 11 rebounds. The Lady Tigers (31-4) were the defending 4A state champs.
