COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - University of Maryland senior right-hander Jake Stinnett threw the seventh no-hitter in school history, striking out nine in a 4-0 victory over the University of Massachusetts on Saturday.

Stinnett (2-1) struck out Paul Yanakopulous in the ninth inning of the first game of a doubleheader to finish off the Terrapins’ first no-hitter since Scott Swinson blanked Delaware in 2008. It was also the school’s first no-no at home since five pitchers combined to beat Coppin State in 2007.

“He had pretty much everything working today,” coach John Szefc said. “It doesn’t happen every day that a guy is that sharp.”

Stinnett faced only two batters over the minimum, both of whom walked, and retired the final 11 batters.

“There could have been a couple of hits that game,” Stinnett said, “but the defense picked me up so many times.”

Conor LeBlanc (0-2) took the loss for the Minutemen.
