Spain’s Foreign Ministry temporarily shuttered its embassy in Libya, ordering its staff to leave and evacuating its ambassador.
The Foreign Ministry cited the escalating violence and security risk in the capital city of Tripoli as the cause of the temporary closing, The Associated Press reported.
A statement from the ministry Thursday clarified that one staff member would stay on at the embassy, AP said.
The announcement comes just a couple days after a Spanish military plane flew out 60 people from Libya — 49 of whom were Spaniards and their relatives, AP reported.
