OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - A federal judge has ordered a 44-year-old Nebraska man to repay $22,708 in housing aid he lied to obtain and spend two months in prison.
The U.S. Attorney’s office says Marquis Harrington of Omaha was recently sentenced for mail fraud and making false statements.
Prosecutors say Harrington lied about his income and the number of people in his family when he applied for rental assistance he received over more than two years.
Harrington then bought a house with a Federal Housing Administration mortgage, but he violated the terms of that loan by taking out a second mortgage and lied about it.
In addition to the prison sentence, Harrington was ordered to serve six months of home confinement after his release.
