LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (AP) - In a story Jan. 20, The Associated Press reported that cougars are extinct in the eastern United States but sometimes spotted there. The story should have made clear that while a subspecies, the eastern cougar, is extinct in the region, cougars from western populations are being spotted there.
