NORTH ADAMS, Mass. (AP) - A Pittsfield man has been sentenced to two and a half years in jail for assaulting two state troopers attempting to frisk him during a routine traffic stop.
Tyler Sumner was sentenced Wednesday after he was found guilty of charges including assault and battery on a police officer and carrying a loaded firearm without a license.
Prosecutors say the 19-year-old Sumner had to be subdued with pepper spray after he knocked down one trooper and punched another in Adams in October.
The Berkshire Eagle (https://bit.ly/1cZAONe ) reports that after his arrest, police found a handgun containing one round on him.
The vehicle was pulled over because police suspected the driver was not old enough to have passengers. Sumner was a passenger.
His lawyer argued that the search was unlawful.
