ST. LOUIS (AP) - Some residents of unincorporated south St. Louis County are ready to leave the Clayton-based local government and form their own breakaway county.

KMOV-TV (bit.ly/1fDA17t ) reports that a group known as Citizens for Responsive Government is researching that option in response to lingering anger to a planned senior housing center in Oakville. Supporters include Republican state Representative Marsha Haefner. The group meets again next week to discuss its options.

South county voters soundly rejected a 1995 ballot referendum to form the city of South Pointe in a 48-square mile area with more than 100,000 residents.
