FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Fresno County supervisors have closed a potential loophole that could have allowed medical marijuana farming in some areas despite the recent ban on growing cannabis.
The Fresno Bee reports (https://bit.ly/1epLZ8d ) the board’s action Tuesday eliminated a provision in county codes that allowed marijuana cultivation in manufacturing zones.
Last month Fresno became California’s first county to ban all pot cultivation. Supervisors called the prohibition a public safety issue, citing 20 incidents of violent crime linked to marijuana farming operations in 2013.
Medical marijuana advocates said Tuesday they are gathering signatures for a referendum to overturn the county ban and are considering legal action.
