HERNANDO, Miss. (AP) - With two lower bidders backing out, Tulsa, Okla.-based Flintco, which built the $14 million, 270-bed first phase of the new DeSoto County Jail just south of Hernando, has been selected as the primary contractor for the jail’s 264-bed second phase with an offer of $8.4 million.
Sheriff Bill Rasco said he was glad to see an end to crowding at the old lockup in downtown Hernando.
Project consultant Michael Childress tells The Commercial Appeal (https://bit.ly/1fK4dzw ) a 14-month construction period is planned, and he’s hopeful that construction can start by mid-March.
