Typhus is a bacterial infection spread by fleas, usually carried by free-roaming domestic pets or opossums, and the county warned not to have food out around such animals.

The disease can be treated with antibiotics but can be deadly if unchecked. Symptoms include fever, headaches, chills, body aches and rashes on the chest, back, arms and legs.
