ST. LOUIS (AP) - Several St. Louis area police departments say they are exploring a mobile alternative to the dashboard video cameras found in most patrol cars.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (bit.ly/1fnA4bA ) reports that police agencies in Crystal City, New Melle and Troy may join their Wentzville counterparts in the use of tiny recording devices attached to officers’ sunglasses or shirt collars. The cameras allow officers to document their encounters with members of the public while also aiding evidence collection.
Wentzville Major Paul West says that use of the camera has led to a decrease in the use of force by officers in the St. Charles County town.
