NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut jury has begun deliberations in the trial of a New Haven man charged with opening fire on a city street and killing two innocent bystanders in 2000.

Jurors in New Haven Superior Court started deliberations Monday and were scheduled to continue Tuesday in the murder trial of 35-year-old Craig Hines. He was arrested two years ago in a police cold case investigation into the killings of 21-year-old Lakeia Vaughn and 26-year-old Lamont Brockenberry.

Prosecutors say the shooter’s target was a man who was standing outside Vaughn’s car and talking with her at the time of the shooting, but Vaughn and Brockenberry were killed instead.
