NEW YORK (AP) - The NYPD says an officer shot and wounded an emotionally disturbed woman after she charged police with a knife.
The incident happened just before 3 p.m. Saturday when police got a 911 call about a suicidal woman in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn.
Officers arrived at the apartment and were directed to a bedroom where the 35-year-old woman was located.
Police say the woman emerged from the bedroom armed with a knife and charged at the officers.
One of the officers fired at the woman, striking her in the torso.
The woman was taken to Kings County Hospital, where she is in stable condition. Her name was not immediately released.
Three knives were recovered at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
