WINDSOR, Vt. (AP) - Several Vermont agencies are collaborating on a land management plan for about 900 acres outside the state correctional facility in Windsor, Vt.
The land near the Southeast Correctional Facility has been discussed as a potential wildlife area or state forest.
The Eagle Times reports (https://bit.ly/1mhlfaG) State Rep. Alice Emmons, a Springfield Democrat and chairwoman of the House Committee on Corrections and Institutions, said having a detailed plan would give offenders in the facility the opportunity to work on the land and provide a service back to the community.
Developing a land management plan to better define activities ranging from hiking and hunting to snowmobiling and cross-country skiing would require conversations with the state corrections department to ensure a buffer zone between the prison and access to the land.
