A huge car bomb that was set off right outside the home of the newly minted Iranian ambassador in Yemen rocked the city streets of Sanaa early Wednesday morning, killing at least two and wrecking several nearby buildings.

Hossein Niknam, Iran’s ambassador to Yemen, was just given the post in the last few days, Iranian state media reported.

The ambassador escaped injury, The Associated Press reported, citing Iran’s government-run Tasnim news agency.

“The Sanaa explosion didn’t harm any Iranian diplomats,” Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Iran’s deputy foreign minister, told AP. “Only material damage was inflicted.”
