OVERLAND, Mo. (AP) - Funeral arrangements are pending for a longtime member of the St. Louis County Council.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1ijNIsf ) reports that Democrat Kathleen Kelly Burkett died Sunday at her home in Overland after battling uterine cancer for nearly a year. She was 68.
Burkett was a longtime activist in the Democratic Party. She ran the county’s Democratic Central Committee from 1993 to 2000.

Burkett was elected councilwoman in 2002 and re-elected three times, most recently in 2012. A special election to fill her seat will be part of the general election on Nov. 4.
