OSSINING, N.Y. (AP) - Officials in the village of Ossining, N.Y., are exploring creating an independent community-based power distribution system.
The microgrid would be connected to the region’s power system and supply electricity to parts of the village when the main grid goes down.
Ossining could seek state grant money for the project.
Electricity to Ossining’s water treatment plant was knocked out during Superstorm Sandy.
Ossining Mayor Bill Hanauer tells the Journal News (https://lohud.us/1mrcAD5 ) he wants the village better positioned to deal with such situations in the future.
Ossining is studying how to create a microgrid with the help of Pace Law School’s Energy and Climate Center and its Environmental Policy Clinic.
