Off-duty officer taken for wild ride in Gresham

GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) - An off-duty homeland security officer hung on to the door of a car as the driver tried to flee the scene of a crash in Gresham.

Police say the officer saw the car spin out Thursday night and hit a tree. The officer reached into the car to take the keys when the driver started backing away with the officer hanging on to the door.

The Oregonian reports (https://bit.ly/1jdbpUZ ) the officer was able to let go after about 150 feet without injury.

The car hit a raised curb and the driver tried to run away on foot. He was tracked down by a police dog and arrested in a swampy area.
