RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP) - A suburban New York man who admitted stealing a police chief’s gun belt and ammunition has been sentenced to three years in prison.
Christopher Loeb of Smithtown pleaded guilty in January to a weapon possession charge. He admitted breaking into a police-issued vehicle belonging to Suffolk County Police Chief James Burke.
Loeb had made allegations that Burke later assaulted him in a precinct interview room. But an FBI investigation found no evidence of wrongdoing by the chief.
According to Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/RvjvRi ), Loeb complained at his sentencing Friday that his rights had been violated.
Judge Martin Efman also gave Loeb an extra year for violating his probation from a previous conviction.
He ordered Loeb to undergo drug treatment. Loeb had testified that he had a $100-a-day heroin habit.
