DELAWARE CITY, Del. (AP) - Delaware environmental officials say nearly 200 pounds of sulfur dioxide has been released into the air at the Delaware City Refinery.
WDEL-AM reports (https://bit.ly/QjKlep ) that the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control said Thursday that the release was tied to a flaring incident caused by a mechanical malfunction.
The agency says 195 pounds of sulfur dioxide, a chemical compound the Environmental Protection Agency considers hazardous, was released into the air.
Officials say the malfunction at the facility on Wrangle Hill Road was reportedly corrected.
