CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - The principal of a Pennsylvania construction company that did work at New Jersey’s Fort Dix has admitted his role in a kickback scheme.
Federal prosecutors in New Jersey say Leonard Santos pleaded guilty Monday to counts of fraud and aggravated assault. The 67-year-old Yardley, Pa., resident admitted to running a scheme in which employees were forced to kick back wages.
Prosecutors say Santos, the principal officer of Bristol, Pa.-based Sands Mechanical, also recruited co-conspirators to rough up a site manager who questioned company policies. They set fire to the man’s truck in one incident, and he was seriously injured in another when he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle.
