A second case of a deadly new virus related to severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) has been reported in France, the Health Ministry confirmed Sunday.

A patient who in late April shared a room at a Valenciennes hospital with the 65-year-old man who initially contracted the virus has tested positive, the ministry said in a statement.

Both are now in isolation at a hospital in nearby Lille, the Associated Press reports.

The virus, which was identified as a cousin of SARS last year in the Middle East, has killed 18 people out of 30 confirmed cases reported to the World Health Organization since September 2012, the AP reports.
