Rep. Michele Bachmann has found herself tangled in an investigation by the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) for allegations of improperly transferring campaign funds.
Federal investigators are currently probing the Minnesota Republican’s former presidential campaign staffers about alleged “intentional campaign-finance violations,” the Daily Beast first reported Monday.
“Investigators came [and] interviewed me and are interviewing other staff members across the country,” Peter Waldron, one of the former staffers, told the Daily Beast. Two other former staffers told the news site that the investigation is under way.
William McGinley, Mrs. Bachmann’s attorney, confirmed the probe, saying the OCE was looking into her records last year.
“There are no allegations that the congresswoman engaged in any wrongdoing,” Mr. McGinley told The Washington Post on Monday. “We are constructively engaged with the OCE and are confident that at the end of their review the OCE Board will conclude that Congresswoman Bachmann did not do anything inappropriate.”
Former staffers told the Daily Beast that investigators have allegedly asked about charges of improper transfer of funds and under-the-table payments actions by Mrs. Bachmann’s presidential campaign.
