Police in Los Angeles have made a huge mistake: While scouring for a former police officer who went into hiding after allegedly killing three, police have themselves shot two women completely by accident.
The women — one was shot in the hand and the other in the back — were transported to the hospital for treatment, according to Torrance police Lt. Devin Chase, in an Los Angeles Times report.
The women reportedly were delivering newspapers in a blue pickup truck that matched the description of the vehicle driven by the suspect, the L.A. Times reports. Following the shooting, the blue pickup was “riddled with bullet holes,” the L.A. Times reported.
“Now it appears neither of them are directly related” to the manhunt suspect, Lt. Chase said in a New York Post report.
The event is the latest in a string of shootings in Los Angeles believed to have been committed by the same suspect. Police are searching a former police officer, Christopher Jordan Dorner, 33, who allegedly shot and killed a couple over the weekend, and then opened fired on police who tried to apprehend him earlier this morning, various media report. One of those officers shot this morning was killed, bring the suspect’s kill count to three. Other police involved in the early-morning shooting were wounded and taken to the hospital for treatment, media reports say.
Fox News reports the suspect is considered armed “and extremely dangerous,” according to one police spokesman.
