Sen. John Kerry’s vacated seat may see some Republican competition after all.
Dan Winslow, a state representative who represents regions southwest of Boston, is expected to announce Tuesday if he is running for the Senate seat — and if he does, he’ll be the first Republican to enter the race, Reuters said.
Mr. Winslow is 54 years old and has held his state office since 2011.
Two Democrats have already announced intent to run: Rep. Ed Markey and Stephen Lynch. Their primary election is set for April 30, Reuters said. So far, the Republican field is nonexistent. Former Sen. Scott Brown, former Gov. William Weld and Tagg Romney — former presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s son — have all turned down the job.
